ABOUT
THE PROPERTY LAWYERS ALLIANCE (PLA)
The Property Lawyers Alliance (PLA) is a values-based organisation and legal community that exists to safeguard and promote the best interests of property lawyers and conveyancers of all backgrounds.
PLA is comprised entirely of practising conveyancers and is entirely self-funded through membership fees and donations. PLA does not accept or entertain sponsorships or promotions of any kind, meaning that it is completely independent and unrestrained in its ability to represent its members.
OUR HISTORY
PLA (formerly the Property Lawyers Action Group) was founded in 2023 in an effort to counter a number of perceived threats to the profession. PLA went on to lead several key campaigns. Most notably organising the rebellion over the fifth edition of the Property Information Form (TA6) which ultimately lead to a Special General Meeting of the Law Society in 2024 as well as a consultation on the form which would ultimately lead to its discontinuation.
PLA and its members have contributed to a number of other key consultations, lending their expertise to discussions where the views of actual conveyancers were often overlooked or not heard at all.
In 2025, PLA initiated its campaign for a review of the anti-money laundering burden being imposed on conveyancers which PLA believes to be disproportionately harmful to the property market as well as to consumers, despite the lack of evidence of efficacy or justification.
OUR PRINCIPLES
PLA advocates for a strong and independent legal profession which serves a unique and indispensable role in the property market.
PLA believes that ethics should be at the forefront of legal practice, and that legal professionals as well as those who regulate or purport to represent them, should prioritise ethical considerations over commercial arrangements that might undermine their independence.
PLA further believes that the existing representative bodies for conveyancers do not adequately embrace these principles, and in some instances actively undermine them.
